16 June....Turkey

Up early and down to breakfast by 7.

Onto mini bus at 8 to be dropped on the highway for Truva bus to collect it. The bus was coming from Canakkle to take us to Ayvalik  It was supposed to be there at 8.35 and when it hadn't arrived by then, some of our party were getting a little apprehensive...but it turned up at 8.45.

All on board. Very civilized. Wi fi on the bus. Several stops on the way but not for long.

Finally our second last stop coffee then 13 seater bus into Avyalik. We locked bags into ferry office then had a. huge lunch. He have us free tea. I thought it was fruit tea and had one sip.  Yuk gave it to  Grace and Nicks comment was he didn't know any old ladies who didn't drink tea. Brought the house down. Of course he didn't mean it but we gave him heaps.

Our waiter spoke English. We mentioned I wanted gold. He just happened to have a friend who sold gold!! Bit scary but off we went in a taxi we were told by the waiter not to pay. Into the shop we went and there were no crosses I liked. So we said thanks but no thanks. I had looked at heaps from Athens on and wasn't sure on any. Out of the shop and then back into the shop. Not sure what happened but he produced 2 more crosses, one of which I purchased plus a chain.

Went to the bazaar but all rubbish and crowded. We got out and just browsed, Dan bought a bikini and then back on foot (about 2 klms) to the restaurant where Dougie and Grace waited. We thanked waiter, then waited for the ferry which left at 6. About 4.55 over to customs and onto the ferry. Played cards again which has turned out to be so much fun. Arrived at Mytilene at 7.30 pm and wait to go through customs. What a joke. Finally got through customs at 9.30 pm. Then drive back to Perrima. Dougie not happy. Took longer to get through there than any of the other customs on the whole trip. home and all exhausted but pleased with our trip.
